Well tomorrow is stage one of the San Dimas stage race.

First off, the report from this past week; and it’s been a bit of a rough one. I caught a nasty blight and instead of racing the spring series over the weekend, I shivered and sweat with a nasty fever and cough. Shani was also lucky enough to catch the same sickness, so between the two of us, it wasn’t pretty.

My preparation over the last week has been to not ride my bike, and to try and get healthy as fast as possible. After a week off and a long road trip down to Los Angeles, it sure feels good to get back on the bike. The legs start to turn into bricks after too many days off the bike.

After our third day of driving we arrived today (Thursday) into San Dimas and got out for a ride on the hill climb course. It is actually an incredible view once you get to the top of the climb and have a look around the San Gabriel Mountains. While it can be super smoggy with these mountains sitting right above LA, today was quite windy and blew off much of the brown, helping out with the view.

So as for the racing; it begins tomorrow with the 6.5km hill climb, followed by a 135km road race on Saturday, and a criterium on Sunday. I don’t really know what to think just yet, as it’s pretty hard to tell how fast the body will recover from being sick. If nothing else, this weekend should really help to get back on track for Redlands coming up next Thursday.

So now it’s time to have some dinner and get rested up for tomorrow. I’ll be doing my best to post updates after each race, so wish me luck.
